Leveraging Innovations and Investments for Health

Guest Speaker: Pradeep Kakkattil

The COVID-19 Pandemic has illuminated one of humanity’s greatest challenges: half of our world’s children, women, and men do not have access to basic health services. Furthermore, nearly 100 million people are pushed into extreme poverty each year due to health care costs. Healthcare ““ for those who do have access – is beset by severe inefficiencies. An estimated 20-40% of health spending is found misdirected.

As COVID-19 continues to devastate global economies, the need for resilient systems for health care has never been more urgent. Technology and innovations are critical to addressing some of the traditional challenges in scaling healthcare ““ they can be leveraged to transform healthcare access at a speed, efficiency, and at a cost that was unimaginable even a decade ago. Furthermore, building resilient health systems capable of responding to future challenges also provides an opportunity to create economic opportunities through health entrepreneurship for the most vulnerable.

What are the opportunities in building innovations, and technologies that can be transformative in healthcare access, and at the same time are sustainable, and profitable? How can innovators leverage investments in health technologies? What are the opportunities for entrepreneurs in health?

This session will provide an insider view on the health challenges facing the world along with the economic, as well as the impact opportunities that it presents. Kakkattil will additionally discuss how innovators are coming up with solutions that are getting us closer to the 2030 SDG targets on Health, and development.
