2019’s GBSessions start on March 13th

The GBSessions are back this semester, bringing diverse topics and insightful discussions, as we always offer. We start with 2019’s agenda next Wednesday March 13th, with two industry experts in Technology & Business Development talking about leadership and growth.

Here is all the information you need to know about the upcoming GBSessions:.

15:30 – 16:00: Please note that there will be a networking session between both talks. Both speakers will be present during the break and the students in attendance have the chance to chat with them informally over a coffee, asking any burning questions they might have.

Guest Speaker: Liam Patton

Topic: What’s leadership in tech & gaming startups?

What defines a leader in the massively dynamic environment of technology and specially in the gaming industry? What are the skills and roles of a CEO? In this “ever changing context”: what should a person think of, if he or she is to become a leader of a multi-disciplinary group? Empathy is the word, that can summarize it all.

About the speaker

Liam Patton holds a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications Engineering and a Postgraduate Degree in Information and Communications Technologies from the Institute of Technology, Barcelona (1997). He is an active member of the Barcelona Tech City entrepreneurs’ cluster since 2013, largest in South-Europe, and part-time professor at the Polytechnical University of Catalonia (UPC), in Barcelona and Terrassa.

He is the CEO and co-founder of the studio Finecortex “smart UX solutions” for big data visualization, mobile and web applications developments and board member for companies in IoT, eSports, eCommerce and AI in Europe and USA.

Previously, Liam co-founded and worked in startups in the mobile entertainment and digital space that developed Hollywood-based franchises from Universal, Disney, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer or Lionsgate. Before jumping into technology startups he worked in Germany at Ford Motor Company (Cologne) and Nokia Mobile Phones (Düsseldorf), in global Product Marketing and Developer Relations roles, as well as Nike (Barcelona) in Sports Marketing and Retail Brand Management departments.

Guest Speaker: Jean-David Kouassigan

Topic: Africa, doomed continent or new El Dorado?

This presentation reflects the frequent perception that the Western world has of Africa, in particular through the eyes of the media: famine, war, corruption, etc. It also reflects how, meanwhile, the African continent has undergone significant and positive socio-economic changes and finally, how these changes transform business opportunities and practices on the continent: growth of the middle-class and the consumer market, conversion to mobile services, implications across sectors.

About the speaker

Jean-David Kouassigan’s role is to convert a company’s strategic vision in operational results. He helps public and private sector organizations develop sustainable initiatives, with a focus on Africa.

Managing director of Terya Consulting, Mentor in ESCI – UPF, Treasurer of the Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research in Spain. Former Private-public partnerships Manager for SOS SAHEL in sustainable development with a focus on entrepreneurship for women and youth, business development for smallholding farmers and access to green energy & solar home systems in rural areas. Also Former Partners Relations Manager at Worldreader and Former Marketing Manager of Philip Morris.
